The Journey Begins 30 Renewable Islands for 2030 – Ready, Set, 30!

The Clean energy for EU islands call for 30 renewable islands by 2030 has reached a milestone, announcing the selection of 30 islands and island groups across 10 European countries. This selection marks a significant step for the 30 finalists towards achieving complete energy independence through 100% renewable sources.

The technical assistance spanning the next three years will address a diversity of areas, encompassing renewable energy generation, storage, smart grids, financing strategies, community involvement, and more. From solar and wind resources analysis to renewable energy plant development and grid flexibility, this support aims to cover a wide spectrum of sustainable energy domains.

Additionally, the technical guidance extends to areas like sustainable marine transport, waste management, district heating optimisation, and the analysis of business models and community participation schemes, reinforcing a holistic approach to the transition towards sustainable energy practices. The selected islands and island groups will serve as pioneers, driving change and exemplifying the potential for renewable energy transformation across various geographical and energy domains.
