from Christian Pleijel
Saaremaa is the biggest island of Estonia, with some 33,000 inhabitants on 2,900 sq km. It makes them very comparable to the Åland Islands (1,600 sq km, 29,000 inhabitants) to which my island Kökar belongs. Saaremaa, just 80 nm southeast of me, is terribly plagues by Covid-19 with about 1,000 ill out of 1,592 confirmed for the whole of Estonia, where 45 are dead.
It seems a volleyball team from Milan, Italy brought the disease to Saaremaa.
On BBC, April 15, the island was called ”Corona Island” https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-52282118/coronavirus-life-on-estonia-s-corona-island-saaremaa
