Important news for European Islands
Today, at the invitation of MEP @ToninoPicula, ESIN Vice-Chair @IvanMatić (@Pokretotoka) met with Commissioner Costas Kadis to discuss the preparation of the first ever EU Strategy for Islands.
We welcome the Commissioner’s clear confirmation that the EU Strategy for Islands will be a stand-alone document, and will not be merged with other strategies.
We presented Habitability, a new island-specific development framework developed by ESIN members within the Island Archipelago Institute at @ÅboAkademi University, offering a more accurate understanding of island realities through innovative indicators.
Commissioner Kadis underlined that “reliable and comparable data must be one of the pillars of the future island strategy” — a key message fully aligned with long-standing advocacy.
We are looking forward to the upcoming public consultations, in which ESIN will take an active part.
